Veterans Information
Veteran students
and qualified dependents should be aware of the following facts:
_ You must apply for benefits each
semester. Nothing is automatic. All forms and assistance are available
on campus from Veterans' Services located in the registrar/admissions
office.
_ Veterans' Services Hours: Monday-Fridays:
8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
_ A veteran or qualified dependent
must be a registered student before forms can be submitted to the
Veterans Administration Regional Office for application for benefit
payments. Evidence of enrollment must be furnished to the Tyler
Junior College Veterans' Services each enrollment period in order
for benefit payment to continue.
Students will be certified only for
courses outlined in their degree objective approved by the Veterans
Administration.
_ VARO toll-free number to Waco-1-800-827-1000
is available for inquiries regarding educational benefits as well
as other types of questions.
_ Hazlewood Act. Texas veterans who
have exhausted their educational benefits may attend Tyler Junior
College under the Hazlewood Act. They may be exempt from tuition
and educational related fees, if Federal Financial Aid funds have
been exhausted, and if they meet all the following educational related
requirements:
1. Currently a Texas resident.
2. A Texas resident at the
time of entrance into the service.
3. Have an honorable discharge.
4. At least six (6) months
active duty, excluding training.
5. Provide a copy of discharge
papers (DD214) to Veterans' Services in Admissions.
6. Proof that all other federal
assistance funds have been exhausted.
7. Have not defaulted on a
student loan.
Student fees and late charges will
be the responsibility of the student and are to be collected at
registration.
