DESCRIPTION OF COURSE:
An introductory study of the theatre arts that surveys the total
art form. This course includes an elementary study of play analysis,
playwriting, and dramatic criticism as well as the techniques and
modern theatre practice in the performance, technical, and managment
positions.

PURPOSE AND GOALS
OF THE COURSE: By the end of the semester the student will
be able to satisfactorily complete all of the listed learning objectives
with a minimum of 70 percent competency based on the completion
of a comprehensive post-examination not to exceed two hours, administered
under the supervision of the instructor. The purpose of this course
is to introduce the student to the theories, methods, and practices
that compose theatre as an art form.

METHODS OF INSTRUCTION:
Primarily assigned readings, supplemented by audio/visual aids,
discussions, handout materials, and notes.

After studying the material presented in this
course of study, the student will be able to do the following:
1. Be able to discuss the position of theatre
as an art form.
2. Be able to identify the elements of drama.
3. Be able to identify and cite examples of the elements of play
construction.
4. Be able to explain the individual responsibilities duties, and
tools of the artist collective.

A= 900 points
B= 750 points
C= 600 points
D= 450 points

Grading Policy
A. The amount of points determining
the course grade must be taken from at least three different
categories of assignments. The student may not complete 100%
of the course from one or two categories.
B. There are no make-ups or late assignments.
C. Maximum points per assignment reflect the amount of points
possible. It does not mean the student will receive that amount
of points for completing the exercise.
D. Unless otherwise noted, assignments/projects must be turned
in one week before finals begin.
