Dr. "Doc" Jean S. Browne
Doc
was immortalized on November 4, 2000 when the Las Mascaras Alumni
presented her with her very own chair at the National Theatre in
Washington D.C. Ninety Years Young, Doc was honored at homecoming
with her chair by David Wren '77 and a proclamation from the Mayor
of Tyler designation November 4th as Dr. Jean S. Browne Day!

TJC Loses Theatre Legend Dr. Jean Speller
Browne, 92, passed away June 3, 2003. “Doc”
Browne began teaching English and Speech at TJC in 1948 and later
served as Director of the Fine Arts Division until her retirement
in 1984.
She is best known for beginning a tradition of
drama and forensic excellence at TJC.When the Wise Cultural Arts
Building was constructed (1980), its theatre was aptly named in
her honor.
Her family has requested memorials be sent to
The Jean Browne Scholarship fund, TJC Foundation, P.O. Box 9020,
Tyler, TX 75711.

Las Mascaras Alumni membership is open to any
Tyler Junior College alumni who participated in any Speech or Theatre
during their tenure on campus. There is no cost, only that you send
