Cheryl
Rogers, Ed.D.
Dr. Cheryl Rogers became a member of the
TJC Music faculty in 1975. Her teaching areas included Concert
Chorus, Chamber Singers, music literature, freshman music theory,
ear training/sight singing, and applied voice and piano. She
remained a music instructor until she was selected as Director
of Music and Dance in 1988 and has continued in that position
to the present. In addition to her administrative duties, she
currently directs Harmony and Understanding, A
Cappella Choir and teaches
private lessons in voice.
Dr. Rogers was awarded a doctor of education
degree from Texas A&M at Commerce in May 1997 with a specialization
in Supervision, Curriculum, and Instruction in Secondary and Higher
Education. She received a master of arts degree in music education
from Stephen F. Austin State University in May 1972. She graduated
summa cum laude from North Texas State University in 1971 with a
bachelor of music degree in education. She received all-level certification
with a concentration in vocal performance. After being an honor
graduate at Robert E. Lee High School, she graduated from Tyler
Junior College with highest honors.
Honorary academic organizations include
Phi Theta Kappa and Who's Who in American Junior Colleges at TJC,
Alpha Chi, Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities, Pi Kappa
Lambda and Mortar Board at NTSU, and World's Who's Who of Women,
Who's Who in the South and Southwest and Kappa Delta Pi at Texas
A&M at Commerce. She also received a NISOD Teaching Excellence
Award, and was selected to Who's Who of American Teachers. Professional
organizations include Texas Choral Directors Association, American
Choral Directors Association, Texas Music Educators Association,
Texas Association of Music Schools, National Association of Teachers
of Singing, Texas Community College Teachers, American Association
of University Women, and American Association for Women in Community
Colleges.
Vocally, Dr. Rogers is also very active
in the Chancel Choir at Marvin Methodist Church and in the community.
As a soprano and mezzo-soprano soloist, she has performed with the
Dallas Baroque Symphony, Longview Symphony, Ft. Worth Chamber Orchestra,
Jacksonville Baptist College, Lufkin Community Chorus, Kilgore College,
and Stephen F. Austin State University and the East Texas Symphony.
She was most recently seen as soprano soloist in the Dvorak Mass
in D and the Mozart Regina Coeli on the Marvin Concert
Series.
